Some issues that arise in the course of our work stand out as deserving our special attention if we are to achieve our most fundamental purposes.
We have two priorities at this point in time. One - the issue of legal costs – stems directly from our work in dealing with complaints. The other - the proposed national legal profession reforms - stems from the realisation that the proposed national reforms would overcome some key shortcomings in our current legislative schema and enable us to do our job more effectively and efficiently in the public interest.
There is a third and on-going issue which impacts our work: the disproportionate number of lawyers who suffer from depression and related psychological ill-health and whose service provision to their clients and third-parties may be compromised accordingly.
